Over $3.9 Million in Trust Fund Awards Approved by State Housing Authority - 4/6/2007

[Columbia, SC] The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority approved over $3.9 million in Trust Fund awards at their recent meeting. Eligible Housing Trust Fund activities include, Emergency Repair, Owner-occupied Rehabilitation Block Grants, Homeownership Acquisition, Supportive Housing, Group Homes, and Rental Housing. These awards consists of 36 properties throughout Florence, Marion, Dillon, Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Allendale, Greenville, Georgetown, Horry, Sumter, Anderson, Clarendon, Lee, Kershaw, Beaufort, Jasper, Orangeburg, Spartanburg, Bamberg, Barnwell, Richland, Laurens, Lexington, Williamsburg, Aiken, Cherokee, Chester, and York counties.

The South Carolina Housing Trust Fund provides financial assistance for the development, rehabilitation, and acquisition of affordable housing for low-income and very low-income households at or below 80 percent of the area median income.

Homeownership Block Grant awards are designed to assist low to moderate income citizens in becoming a homeowner. These grants are limited to households at or below 80 percent of the area median income.

Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Block Grants
Owner occupied rehabilitation block grants are limited to very low income households at or below 50 percent of the area median income. These grants are designed to assist very low income homeowners in correcting severe health, safety, or structural problems with their homes.
East Bluff Community Organization - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven homes located in Richland County.
Waccamaw Regional Council of Government - $89,000 for the rehabilitation of four homes located in Georgetown County.
Rural Initiatives - $155,750 for the rehabilitation of seven homes located in Calhoun, Orangeburg, and Barnwell counties.
Alphons and Ruth Vink Foundation - $155,750 for the rehabilitations of seven homes located in Chester County.
Laurens County Disabilities and Special Needs Board - $22,250 for the rehabilitation of one home located in Laurens County.
Victory Plus, Inc. - $46,000 for the rehabilitation of two houses located in Greenville County.
Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity - $23,000 for the rehabilitation of one home located in Beaufort County.

Supportive Housing
The purpose of this Supportive Housing is to fund Shelters and/or Transitional Housing for very low income households at or below 50 percent of the area median income.
Home Alliance, Inc. - $300,000 for the construction of an emergency shelter located in Horry County to house very low income individuals.
Homes of Hope, Inc. -$224,746 for the acquisition and rehabilitation of four units to house homeless individuals in Greenville County.
Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina - $60,750 for the acquisition off one transitional housing unit for a homeless family in Greenville County.
Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina - $60,000 for the acquisition of one transitional unit to house a homeless family in Greenville County.
Rental Housing
Rental Housing awards are limited to low and very low income individuals at or below 80 percent of the area median income.
Santee-Lynches Affordable Housing and CDC -- $370,368 for the construction of six homes located in Sumter County.
Allendale County ALIVE - $300,000 for the acquisition and rehabilitation of nine homes located in Allendale County.
