Governor Taps Charleston Businessman as New State Housing Board Chairman - 9/26/2007
[Columbia, SC] Governor Mark Sanford has announced the appointment of Charleston businessman, Christopher B. Fraser, as Chairman of the nine-member Board of Commissioners of the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority.
Fraser was appointed as a member of the Board of Commissioners in 2004 and has over 20 years of knowledge and experience in the real estate arena. He is President and Managing Principal of Grubb&Ellis|Barkley Fraser, a company he co-founded in 1989, specializing in commercial real estate development using the latest technology to serve clients. The company, now in its second decade of growth, has been successful due to its unsurpassed commitment to its clients.
“I feel honored to be appointed to serve as chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Authority. I have learned a great deal over the past three years as a member of the Board. The most singular, important fact is that the need for affordable housing in South Carolina continues to climb,” said Fraser. “For that reason, increasing the affordable housing supply throughout the state and improving the housing conditions of our citizens should be in the forefront of all housing industry professionals,” he added.
Active in many professional and civic organizations, Fraser has served as Past President of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors and is a member of the South Carolina Association of Realtors. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Education
Foundation. He received his CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation. Before he began his career in real estate, he served 8 years in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power Program.
“Since Mr. Fraser’s tenure on the Board, he has shown a strong commitment to the organization, our mission, and our values and I look forward to working with him as our Chairman,” said Valarie Williams, Interim Executive Director for the Authority. “He possesses the innovative thinking that is required in addressing the affordable housing needs of our citizens.”
The Authority’s Board of Commissioners, comprised of individuals with various experience in the field of housing and finance, establishes policy for the agency and oversees its operation. Fraser’s term will expire August 15, 2008.
The Authority is a self-sufficient agency of state government operating at no expense to the taxpayers of South Carolina.
