Governor Appoints Sullivan’s Island Businessman as State Housing Board Chairman - 8/15/2008
[Columbia, SC] Governor Mark Sanford has announced the appointment of Sullivan’s Island businessman, T. Scott Smith, as Chairman of the nine-member Board of Commissioners of the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority.
Smith was appointed to the Board of Commissioners November 2007.
Smith has more than 25 years of experience in the real estate business. He is the principle and president of WRS Realty Investments responsible for developing, leasing and managing regional and neighborhood retail properties across the Southeast United States.
Smith is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a former member of the Advisory Board of the University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
“There has never been a time when the mission of the Authority has been more vital than it is today. The Authority has enjoyed great success over the last few years and, as Chairman, I hope to be able to continue to improve the work we do.” said Smith.

I know that in his tenure as Chairman he will continue to lead us in the right direction and enhance our mission with his particular skills in business and development.”. said Valarie Williams, Executive Director for the Authority. “I am grateful for his willingness to devote his time and talents to the work of the Authority.”
The Authority’s Board of Commissioners, comprised of individuals with diverse experience in housing, finance, business and community service, establishes policy for the agency and oversees its operation. Smith’s term will expire August 15, 2009.
The Authority is a self-sufficient agency of state government, assisting citizen in finding affordable housing at no expense to the taxpayers of South Carolina.
