Top Lenders and Brokers Recognized at Statewide Affordable Housing Forum - 2/23/2010
The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC State Housing) is widely recognized as the premier source of capital for single-family home loans to first-time home buyers in the state. But the small state agency, with only one location in Lexington County, can’t do it alone.
In the true spirit of a public-private partnership, SC State Housing depends on a network of more than 100 participating lenders, credit unions, and brokers to originate the competitive interest rate loans. Several years ago SC State Housing began recognizing the contributions of these private sector lenders by establishing an annual Lender and Broker Awards program. Awards are typically made in two segments, honoring lenders and brokers with statewide branches (Division I) and smaller financial institutions (Division II).
The awards are given based on criteria including overall production, underwriting quality, delinquency, foreclosure rates, and other pertinent information relating to the financial institutions. The top achievers for 2009 have been announced and were presented at the Palmetto Affordable Housing Forum, February 18, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
Lender/Broker of the Year – First Reliance Bank, with $8,851,071 in mortgage loans
Lender of the Year-Division I – Homeowners Mortgage, $5,757,223
Lender of the Year-Division II –Guaranty Bank/Shelter Mortgage, $2,241,708
Broker of the Year-Division I – Hanover Mortgage, $6,630,240
Broker of the Year-Division II – Hinks Mortgage, $2,579,359
Since the Mortgage Revenue Bond (MRB) Program’s inception, SC State Housing has made more than 37,000 first mortgages, for a total investment of well over $2.2 billion.
“We could not operate our first-time home buyer program without the help we receive from private sector lenders,” said Valarie M. Williams, SC State Housing’s Executive Director. “We continually add additional lenders and brokers to the program,” she added. “We want home buyers in all parts of the state to have convenient access to affordable homeownership.”
