Fifteen South Carolina Counties to Benefit from Federal HOME Awards - 7/27/2010
The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC State Housing), recently awarded more than $3.8 million to build or rehabilitate housing in the state. Through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), fifteen local governments, nonprofits and Community Housing Development Organization (CHDOs) received grants ranging from $20,000 to $591,792. The HOME Program was created under the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act of 1990. HOME is a flexible block grant program designed to promote partnerships among the federal government, state and local governments, and the nonprofit and for-profit sectors who build, own, manage, finance, and support a variety of low income housing initiatives. HOME funds must benefit persons at 80 percent or below of their county median income.

HOME funds were awarded to eligible organizations through a competitive process: Rental Housing activities accounted for $2,229,521, and $1,604,250 was awarded for Homeownership initiatives.
