Foreclosure filings in the state of South Carolina are still on the rise. However, the Homeownership Resource Center, a division of Family Services, Inc. and the South Carolina State Housing Finance & Development Authority are reaching out to help Columbia area homeowners who are behind or at risk of becoming behind on their primary mortgage. FREE Foreclosure Prevention Clinics will be offered July 31st at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Columbia Center, 924 Senate Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

The foreclosure prevention clinics are free of charge and open to homeowners facing the possibility of foreclosure on their primary residence. Licensed Housing and Urban Development (HUD) counselors will be facilitating the foreclosure prevention clinics and will be providing education and information on options to foreclosure. Homeowners will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one counseling with the licensed counselors at the foreclosure prevention clinics. Homeowners who are behind, or at risk of becoming behind on their primary mortgage payment are encouraged to attend this FREE event.  Information about the federal government’s Home Affordable Modification Plan (HAMP) will be available at the event.

Attendees are encouraged to bring the following documentation to the clinic of their choice on July 31st at 9:00a.m., 11:00 a.m., or 1:00 p.m.

  • most recent statement from your lender
  • a recent pay stub from all homeowners on the mortgage
  • most recent bank statement, tax return, and utility bill
  • legal papers from attorneys related to foreclosure (Lis Pendens if applicable)
For more information, please call Family Services’ Homeownership Resource Center toll free at 888-320-0350 or visit www.ForeclosureHelpforSC.org.

The free foreclosure prevention clinics are for homeowners who are behind on, or at risk of becoming behind on, mortgage payments for their primary residence only. Due to lender restrictions and other circumstances, The Homeownership Resource Center is unable to assist owners of rental, investment, mobile, and/or modular homes with foreclosure prevention services at this time.
